Cromartie underglaze colours are designed to give potters, studios, and hobbyists the freedom to create bold and long-lasting decoration on ceramics. Easy to apply and suitable for multiple techniques, these ceramic underglazes bring both vibrancy and versatility to your pottery projects.
With one coat, colours appear translucent. Two coats give a semi-opaque finish, while three coats provide a solid colour effect depending on your painting style. This makes Cromartie Colours ideal for everything from delicate shading to strong block colour designs.
Apply to cone 04 (approx. 1060°C) earthenware bisque
Cover with your choice of clear glaze
Fire to cone 06 (approx. 1000°C)
Firing range: cone 06 – cone 6 (note: cone 6 stoneware will create colour changes)
Clean up easily with water
All Cromartie underglazes are non-toxic and safe for food contact when a food-safe clear glaze is applied, making them suitable for both functional ware and decorative pieces.
These pottery underglaze colours can be used for brushwork, sgraffito, sponging, and layering. They also combine beautifully with Cromartie Crystals, other ceramic glazes, and can even be used in traditional Majolica techniques when applied over an opaque, non-moving glaze.
