Duncan Metallic Glazes for Bisque and Pottery

Duncan Metallic Glazes are specialty fired ceramic glazes for bisque and pottery painting. They are designed to add metallic surface effects to ceramic pieces, with finishes ranging from shiny polished colour to softer matte metallic effects.

Use this range when you want a fired metallic glaze rather than a non-fired metallic acrylic paint or ceramic lustre. These glazes are applied to shelf cone 04 bisque, then fired, making them part of the fired colour process rather than a no-kiln decorative finish.

Most Duncan Metallic Glazes fire to shelf cone 04. SY1024 Antique Pewter is the exception and fires to shelf cone 06. Always check the individual product label before use, especially when working with metallic finishes, firing changes or important pieces.

Application & Firing Guide

  • Apply to: shelf cone 04 bisque
  • Coats: apply 3–4 flowing coats
  • Standard firing: fire to shelf cone 04
  • Exception: SY1024 Antique Pewter fires to shelf cone 06
  • Important: do not fire with greenware or other glazes
  • Clean-up: clean up with water

Metallic glaze results can vary with application thickness, bisque shape and firing conditions. Test before using a new colour on important work, and follow the label instructions for the correct application and firing process.
