Milton Bridge Studio Line Celadon Stoneware Glazes

Milton Bridge Celadon Stoneware Glazes are translucent glossy glazes that highlight carved and textured surfaces. As the glaze pools in recesses it builds colour and shine, while raised areas fire to a softer, lighter tone – giving classic celadon depth and contrast.

Firing & Finish

Firing range: Cone 4–9 (approx. 1180–1280 °C)

Finish: Translucent, glossy celadon-style surface

Food safe: When fired to the manufacturer’s recommended temperature

Best on: Textured or carved pieces where glaze can pool in recessed areas

Visual effect: Recessed details become deeper and glossier; raised areas stay lighter or more matte, enhancing contrast

Application: Apply in even coats to suitable stoneware bisque; final results will vary with clay body, thickness and firing schedule

Use Celadon glazes on their own for subtle, translucent colour or combine them with other Milton Bridge Studio Line stoneware ranges to create layered, reactive surfaces across your functional and decorative pottery.

Basic application: Stir well before use. Brush, sponge or stamp the glaze onto your piece, applying 2–3 layers depending on the desired result. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next.

Tips: Celadon glazes can be intermixed to increase the colour palette. Mix with matt glazes for a satin look, or mix with Vibes reactive glazes for a more dramatic “magic” effect.

Testing: Always try out the glaze in your own kiln on your chosen clay body. The choice of clay body, thickness of glaze application, combinations of glazes, and the firing process and temperature will all affect the fired results.

Example firing schedule (Cone 6 / 1220 °C): Fire at a rate of around 175 °C per hour up to 1220 °C. Adjust according to your kiln, firing programme and desired finish.
