Studio Line By the Sea Stoneware Reactive Glazes

Milton Bridge Studio Line By the Sea reactive stoneware glazes banner – glossy reactive finishes, Cone 4–9, food safe

NEW By the Sea Reactive Stoneware Glazes

Explore the new By the Sea Studio Line Stoneware Reactive Glazes by Milton Bridge – a beautifully atmospheric collection of reactive stoneware glazes inspired by coastal colours, sea-worn textures and flowing ocean tones.

Created as a special collaboration with Keith Brymer Jones, this range brings together expressive Studio Line glaze development with a soft, natural seaside palette. The result is a collection of glossy reactive stoneware glazes designed to capture movement, depth and organic variation in the kiln.

These glossy reactive glazes are designed to create rich variation, movement and depth in the kiln, making each fired piece naturally unique. Depending on the clay body, glaze thickness, application method and firing schedule, the finished surface may develop soft tonal shifts, flowing edges, speckled detail and layered colour effects.

Keith Brymer Jones Introduces By the Sea Reactive Stoneware Glazes

Watch Keith Brymer Jones introduce the new Milton Bridge By the Sea stoneware reactive glaze collection, created in collaboration with Milton Bridge.

The range officially launches on Sunday 14th June, but the glazes are available to order online from Cromartie now.

We will also have the new By the Sea glazes available from our stands at Ceramic Wales and Potfest Scotland this weekend, where customers can see the range and purchase directly from the Cromartie stand.

The By the Sea range is suitable for firing between 1180–1280 °C, Cone 4–9, making it ideal for stoneware pottery, decorative ceramics and creative glaze testing. These glazes are perfect for potters, studios and ceramic artists looking to add organic, reactive finishes to mugs, bowls, vases, planters, sculptural work and textured pieces.

Please note that K005, K013, K014, K022 and K025 have a different firing range of 1160–1240 °C, Cone 2–6. Always check the individual product details before firing and test first, especially when layering or using on functional ware.

These glazes are marked as food safe, making them suitable for functional ceramics when fired correctly according to the manufacturer’s guidance. As with all reactive glazes, we recommend testing on your chosen clay body and avoiding heavy application near the foot of pots, as reactive glazes may move during firing.

For best results, apply evenly to bisque-fired ware and allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next. Reactive glazes can behave differently depending on the surface texture, application thickness and kiln conditions, so testing is strongly recommended before using on larger batches or customer pieces.

Note: Reactive glaze results will vary from piece to piece. Colour movement, breaking, pooling and surface variation are part of the character of this glaze range. Always test first.
