Studio Line Matt Stoneware Glazes

Studio Line matt stoneware glazes are professional stoneware and porcelain glazes with a contemporary matt finish. They give ceramic forms a softer surface than high-gloss glazes, allowing texture, shape and colour to sit at the centre of the finished piece.

These Milton Bridge Studio Line Matte glazes fire across Cone 4–9, approximately 1180–1280°C. They are food safe when fired to the manufacturer’s recommended temperature and are opaque, with F500 Transparent Matt as the exception. At the higher end of the firing range, the matt surface can develop a soft satin sheen.

Firing, Finish & Application

  • Firing range: Cone 4–9, approximately 1180–1280°C
  • Finish: matt surface, with a soft satin sheen at higher firing temperatures
  • Food safe: when fired to the manufacturer’s recommended temperature
  • Opacity: opaque, except F500 Transparent Matt
  • Clay bodies: suitable for stoneware and porcelain
  • Application: stir well, then apply by brush, sponge or stamp in 2–3 even coats, allowing each coat to dry before the next

The Studio Line range is intermixable, so these matt glazes can be combined with Bright Transparent glazes for a satin look or with Vibes Reactive glazes for more varied surface effects. Always test on your chosen clay body and firing schedule, as glaze thickness, combinations and kiln conditions can all influence the final result.

Note: Studio Line Matte Glazes are separate from Duncan True Matte glazes. Test before using on important work, especially when mixing glazes or changing clay body, thickness or firing schedule.
