Since its inception in 1987, this three-day ceramics event has grown into the UK’s leading platform for ceramicists, potters, and makers. It provides teachers, students, ceramic artists, collectors, professional potters, hobbyists, and clay enthusiasts with the opportunity to connect, learn, and explore the latest innovations in ceramic making, from kiln technology to surface decoration and firing techniques.
The Festival attracted over 1,000 visitors who attended lectures, watched live demonstrations, and explored a wide range of exhibitions featuring hand-built ceramics, wheel-thrown pottery, and large-scale kiln firings.
International demonstrators showcased their skills live on stage, while working in personal studio spaces nearby. From raku firings to sculpture, attendees got an up-close look at every stage of the ceramic process — all in one place. The focus was both inspirational and practical, highlighting everything from traditional hand-building to advanced kiln-building techniques.
The International Ceramics Festival supports emerging ceramic artists and students from fine art, design, and ceramics courses across the UK. Dedicated areas allowed newer makers to exhibit, learn, and connect with mentors in the industry.
Teaching organisations were encouraged to bring their students along to experience live demonstrations and take part in career-enriching workshops in clay, glaze chemistry, and more.
Visitors were invited to take part in a range of hands-on ceramic workshops, including throwing, hand-building, and experimental firing methods. The festival also featured the highly anticipated Lifetime Achievement Award, voted for by attendees, and the Cup Sale, which raised funds to support emerging artists and ceramic education.
The 2025 event was proudly sponsored by Potclays and supported by leading ceramic brands, universities, and organisations such as the Welsh Arts Council and the Welsh Government.
The International Ceramics Festival is jointly organised by North Wales Potters, South Wales Potters, and Aberystwyth University – with contributions from ceramic experts, educators, and global pottery communities.
