Directions for Using the Gare Black Viscosity Cup

The viscosity cup is used to measure glaze viscosity, consistency and thickness before dipping. For Gare Dazzle Dip Clear Glaze, use the following method to check the glaze before application.

  1. Prime your new viscosity cup by washing it with warm water and soap, then rinse well.
  2. Thoroughly mix the dipping glaze with a drill-powered Jiffy mixer.
  3. Submerge the viscosity cup straight down into the glaze until full, making sure not to swirl the cup or create a vortex.
  4. Remove the cup straight up from the glaze. As it clears the surface, use a stopwatch to begin timing the flow from the drain hole at the bottom.
  5. Stop the timer when the steady stream of glaze breaks. This gives you the measurement of glaze consistency.
  6. If the measurement is too high, adjust the viscosity by adding small quantities of distilled water and recheck the result.
  7. Clean the viscosity cup after each use, giving special attention to the recess around the drain hole. Do not use metal tools to clean this area; use a soft bottle brush.

Important note: The Gare Black Viscosity Cup has a larger volume and drain hole than the previous Dupont cup. This creates a faster stream of glaze, which is why the recommended reading for Gare Dazzle Dip Clear Glaze is 11–13 seconds when using the black cup.
