Opaque Glossy Blue with Warm Breaks on Texture
Astral Blue C6 Pro Series Stoneware Glaze produces an opaque glossy surface that shifts from light to medium blue. The fired samples show warmer brown-to-olive breaking along raised throwing lines, rims and edges, helping textured forms retain definition beneath the blue colour. This makes it a useful option for ridged vessels, carved detail and layered surface work.
Choose Astral Blue when you want a fuller, more opaque blue than a transparent celadon-style surface while still allowing application and texture to create tonal movement. It can be used alone or tested with other glazes, but clay body, application thickness, layering and kiln conditions can alter the result, so compare labelled test tiles before glazing a full batch.
- Compare smooth and textured test tiles to assess how the glaze breaks across raised areas.
- Record the application thickness and glaze order used for layered tests.
- Add Powder Gum Arabic as required for a thicker applied finish.
