Pottery calipers provide a simple way to compare and transfer dimensions while making ceramic pieces. They can be used to check internal and external measurements, helping when parts need to correspond accurately rather than relying on visual judgement alone.
A common use is measuring the opening of a jar and transferring that dimension when making a lid. Calipers can also help compare related pieces where size and fit matter.
