Warm Yellow Earthenware Engobe for Sgraffito & Linework
Yellow BOTZ Earthenware Engobe creates a warm yellow ceramic surface with an earthy matt character when left without overglazing. The colour works particularly well with contrasting decoration: pale incised lines remain clearly defined against the yellow, while darker outlines can give simple motifs such as the sun designs shown a much stronger graphic appearance.
Its suitability for sgraffito makes Yellow a useful choice when the engobe is intended to provide the main field colour while carved decoration supplies the contrast. Slight dilution also allows marbling on soaked biscuit-fired or leather-hard clay for more fluid pattern, while a thin transparent overglaze can be used when brighter colour intensity is preferred to the earthy matt result.
The engobe can also be used as a pourable clay for small objects. For this use, fire at 1050°C, where it sinters frost-resistant.
