Clear Gloss with a Coarse Crackle Net Pattern
Create a distinctive crackled surface with BOTZ Clear Crackle Stoneware Glaze. This glossy transparent glaze develops a coarse network of cracks after firing, allowing the clay body or decoration beneath to remain visible while adding a pronounced crackle effect across the surface.
Apply 2–3 coats, with BOTZ recommending 3 coats because the glaze is absorbed only slowly by biscuit ware. Fire between 1220°C and 1280°C with a 30-minute soak. The glaze will not run off. Crack development may continue after cooling and, in some cases, the full crackle network may take up to a week to appear. BOTZ advises colouring the cracks only after they have developed, using strong black tea or china ink rubbed into the surface.
