  Description

Turquoise Earthenware Engobe for Sgraffito & Cool Surface Contrast

Turquoise BOTZ Earthenware Engobe brings a cool blue-green colour to ceramic surfaces, with an earthy matt character when left without overglazing. The turquoise ground gives both pale and dark linework clear definition, making it especially effective for simple outlined motifs and carved decoration where the contrast between the surface colour and the design is an important part of the finished piece.

Sgraffito can be used to cut patterns through the coloured surface, while slight dilution allows the engobe to be used for marbling on soaked biscuit-fired or leather-hard clay. For a stronger colour response, a thin transparent overglaze increases the colour intensity and gives another visual option alongside the softer un-overglazed matt result.

Turquoise can also be used as a pourable clay for small objects. For this application, fire at 1050°C, where it sinters frost-resistant.
