Red Earthenware Engobe for Bold Illustrated Sgraffito
Red BOTZ Earthenware Engobe brings a warm red ground to ceramic decoration, developing an earthy matt character when left without overglazing. The colour works particularly well with simple illustrated motifs where the outline becomes part of the design; pale lines create a lighter contrast against the red, while darker linework gives shapes and facial details a stronger graphic presence.
Sgraffito can be used to cut drawings, patterns and fine detail through the coloured engobe, while slight dilution allows more fluid marbling on soaked biscuit-fired or leather-hard clay. A thin transparent overglaze increases the colour intensity when a brighter red surface is preferred to the softer un-overglazed matt result.
