  Description

Warm Light Brown Engobe for Organic Linework & Sgraffito

Light Brown BOTZ Earthenware Engobe brings a warm, earthy brown colour to ceramic surfaces, developing a matt character when left without overglazing. Its natural-looking tone works particularly well as a background for organic and flowing decoration; the tree designs show how pale lines can create a light, open contrast while darker outlines give the same warm surface a more defined graphic character.

Sgraffito can be used to carve motifs and fine detail through the coloured engobe, while slight dilution makes it suitable for marbling on soaked biscuit-fired or leather-hard clay. A thin transparent overglaze increases the colour intensity when a brighter result is wanted, giving a useful alternative to the softer earthy matt surface.

Light Brown can also be used as a pourable clay for small objects. For this application, fire at 1050°C, where it sinters frost-resistant.
