Light Blue Earthenware Engobe for Delicate Carved Contrast
Light Blue BOTZ Earthenware Engobe creates a soft blue ceramic surface with an earthy matt character when left without overglazing. Its gentle colour makes a useful background for restrained line decoration, while the crown examples show how both pale and dark outlines can stand apart from the blue surface without overwhelming the design.
Sgraffito allows patterns to be cut through the engobe for defined decorative detail, while slight dilution makes it suitable for marbling on soaked biscuit-fired or leather-hard clay. When a stronger colour effect is wanted, a thin transparent overglaze increases the colour intensity while retaining Light Blue as the main decorative colour.
The engobe can also be used as a pourable clay for small objects. For this application, fire at 1050°C, where it sinters frost-resistant.
