Gold Ochre Earthenware Engobe for Warm Carved Decoration

Gold Ochre BOTZ Earthenware Engobe brings a warm golden-earth colour to ceramic surfaces, developing an earthy matt character when left without overglazing. Its muted ochre tone gives carved and outlined decoration a natural backdrop, while the bird examples show how both pale and darker linework can remain clearly visible against the coloured surface.

Sgraffito makes good use of this contrast by cutting marks and patterns through the engobe, while slight dilution allows it to be used for marbling on soaked biscuit-fired or leather-hard clay. A thin transparent overglaze provides another visual option, increasing the colour intensity when a brighter result is preferred to the un-overglazed matt surface.

Gold Ochre can also be used as a pourable clay for small objects. For this application, fire at 1050°C, where it sinters frost-resistant.
