  Description

Dark Blue Earthenware Engobe for High-Contrast Surface Detail

Dark Blue BOTZ Earthenware Engobe gives ceramic surfaces a deep blue colour with an earthy matt character when left without overglazing. The darker ground is particularly effective for decoration that depends on contrast, allowing pale incised marks to stand out clearly while darker linework creates a subtler pattern within the blue surface.

Sgraffito can be used to cut stars, lines and other motifs through the coloured surface, while slightly diluted engobe is suitable for marbling on soaked biscuit-fired or leather-hard clay. A thin transparent overglaze increases the colour intensity when a brighter, stronger blue result is preferred to the un-overglazed matt finish.
