Soft Lavender and Mauve with Blue-Based Tonal Effects
Create soft, atmospheric purple stoneware surfaces with BOTZ Lilac Speckle Stoneware Glaze. This lavender-coloured effect glaze has a blue base with lighter and darker mauve variation, shifting subtly from cooler bluish mauve through to warmer reddish mauve depending on the firing temperature.
Apply 2–3 coats, with BOTZ recommending 3 coats for the preferred result, but use only 2 coats around the base of the object. Fire between 1220°C and 1280°C with a 30-minute soak, with BOTZ identifying 1250°C as the most attractive firing temperature. At 1220°C the colour is mauve with a slightly bluish cast; at 1250°C BOTZ describes a stone-matt light mauve glaze with a blue base and light and dark mauve precipitations where applied thinly; at 1280°C the mauve becomes slightly more reddish. BOTZ also states that this glaze tends to run.
