How to Make an Oval Trinket Dish

  1. Roll out clay to approximately 7mm thick.
  2. Dust the mould with talc or cornflour and place it on the table handle side down.
  3. Drape the clay over the mould and gently firm the clay around the mould with your hands.
  4. Use a damp sponge to smooth out the shape.
  5. Dust the cutter, then place it over the mould and cut the clay.
  6. Leave the cutter in place for now and cut away any excess clay.
  7. Flip over the mould and cutter, then press the cutter up and over.
  8. Smooth over the edges with a damp sponge.
  9. Give the mould a little twist and lift it away from the clay.
  10. Neaten up the edges again with a damp sponge if needed.
  11. Place a small board or tile on top of the dish while it dries to help prevent warping.
  12. Allow to dry fully before firing.
