Kiln Elements, Element Wire & Connectors

Kiln Elements, Element Wire & Connector Replacements for a Huge Range of Ceramic Kilns

Cromartie manufacture replacement kiln elements, element wire and connectors for a wide range of ceramic kilns — including our own historic Workhorse and Hobbytech models and many other brands. Every element we produce is wound to order, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and compatibility with your specific kiln model.

Important: Because all Cromartie kiln elements are wound to order, next-day delivery cannot be guaranteed.
If you require your replacement elements urgently, please call us on 01782 319435 and we will advise availability.

We do hold stock of factory-made Skutt KilnMaster kiln elements, and these appear below and are available to order online.

Replacing Kiln Elements

Replacing elements is a routine part of kiln maintenance. Doing so before failure prevents damage, ensures firing consistency, and avoids unpredictable results. In most cases, replacing the full set is recommended.

Signs that your kiln elements may be worn include:

  • Firing cycles taking longer than usual
  • Results appearing over-fired despite unchanged programmes
  • Heat-work increasing due to extended firing time

Safety Notice: All electrical work must be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person.

Why We Need Detailed Information Before Manufacturing Elements

Kilns often pass through several owners and may undergo updates, changes in firing habits, or maintenance over decades. To avoid costly mistakes, we require full and accurate details before manufacturing or supplying replacement elements.

Minimum Information Required for All Element Orders

  • Owner’s name, telephone number and (if possible) email address.
  • Make, model, serial number, load (kW), voltage, amps, single-phase / 3-phase / 3-phase with neutral, maximum temperature rating, and approximate age (if known). A clear photo of the kiln’s data plate is often sufficient.
  • Controller type and thermocouple type (R, S or K).
  • If the kiln is 16 amps or under, please tell us the maximum temperature you expect to reach. Example: a kiln rated at 13A on 240 V originally drew 3120 W — but on 220 V, the load is significantly lower, reducing top temperature and firing speed.
  • We may be able to offer upgraded elements for improved performance.
  • If chamber walls are damaged, photos help us advise on securing new elements.
  • More complex element orders generally require a discussion to avoid costly errors.
