Made from a bright white stoneware body and soft fired to cone 04/03, these ready to paint ceramic blanks provide an excellent surface for glazing, decorating and firing to create strong, long-lasting finished pieces.
Our stoneware bisque is designed to work beautifully with cone 5/6 mid-range glazes, helping you achieve rich colour, reliable glaze fit and a more robust final result. Once glaze fired, pieces are suitable for everyday use and are oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe, making them perfect for stoneware pottery dinnerware, mugs, bowls, plates and decorative ceramics.
Because the bisque is soft fired, it should be handled and fired with a little extra care. We recommend firing to cone 6 for the best balance of strength and glaze performance. Pieces should always be placed fully on a kiln-washed shelf and should not be stilted, as stilts may embed into the body during firing. For larger items, full support is important, and mugs generally fire best with the handles facing toward the centre of the kiln for more even heat distribution.
Stoneware bisque also shrinks by approximately 10% during firing, so it is a good idea to keep it clearly separated from lower-firing earthenware stock in your studio. Many customers find it helpful to set aside a dedicated area for stoneware blanks or plan designated cone 6 firing days to keep production organised and avoid confusion between high fired stoneware bisque and standard earthenware bisque.
